Semiotomatic is an ongoing workshop and publication series exploring the practice of collaborative play. Drawing from Surrealist parlor games, Situationist subversion and deconstruction, Fluxus scores, and the participation of relational aesthetics, Semiotomatic is more concerned with the process than the results. By inviting the audience to co-create the work, Semiotomatic questions the role of spectator and spectacle and of author and viewer.
Over the course of the workshop the group participates in a series of collaborative collage games, comprising the content of the publication. The hope is that participants are inspired to take the simple tools explored in the workshop into their own practices, appropriating and adapting Semiotomatic for themselves and their communities.
